Loch Ness Monster
The Loch Ness Monster also known as Nessie is one of the cryptids that most people in the science community have dismissed as not being real. They claim that there is no actual, definitive evidence that supports that this monster live in the loch. There still are many people that do belive Nessie is out there.
Here are some interesting facts about the loch. There is more water in Loch Ness than all the other lakes in England, Scotland and Wales put together. It is around twenty two and a half miles long and is about one to one and a half miles wide, with a depth of seven hundred fifty-four feet with the bottom of the loch being as very flat. It holds two hundred sixty three thousand million cubic feet of water which is around sixteen million four hundred thirty thousand million gallons of water with a surface area of ofourteen thousand acres. Seven rivers feed into the loch the Oich, Tarff, Enrich, Coiltie, Moriston, Foyers and Farigaig plus numerous burns, with only one outlet the River Ness. The outlet flows seven miles through Inverness into the Moray Firth fifty-two feet below the loch surface. The loch never freezes because of the great amount of water in it a thermocline lies at around one hundred feet down in the loch. The top one hundred feet of water alters temperature depending on the weather conditions but below the thermocline the temperature never alters from fourty-four degrees Fahrenheit. So as the surface water cools in winter and nears freezing point it sinks and is replaced by the warmer water from below. This can cause the loch to steam on very cold days. It has been estimated that the heat given off by the loch in a winter is the equivalent to burning two million tons of coal.
Sightings of the Loch Ness Monster
This site has most of the sightings of land based, water based, and sonar based sighting that have happened from the mid to late 1800's. This record of all the sighting is very impressive to see. The cities around the loch benefits from all the tourists that come to try and see if they can get a glimspe of Nessie.
Here is a story about a guy, George Edwards, who goes out nearly everyday in search for Nessie. He sometimes takes tourists out in hope that they can have some luck looking for the monster. One day while out on the loch Edwards saw something out of the corner of his eye and grabbed his camera right away. He managed to get some pictures of the Monster.

He claimed that there was more than one of the monsters. These monsters are believed to be a creature that represents a line of long-surviving plesiosaurs. The article says that Edwards was interested in finding Nessie since he was thirteen years old. He has been out on the loch hundreds of times and was interviewed by ABCnews for the picture(on the right) he took.
If the Loch Ness Monster exists then what it is exactly. The popular theory is that it is some kind of Plesiosaur (a marine reptile) surviving from the Age of Dinosaurs. Other theories suggest that it may be some kind of pinniped (seals, sea lions, etc), an amphibian or a large eel. One problem with the pinniped or plesiosaur theory is that they would need to surface for air, thus making it more likely that they would be seen. Additionally, a piniped would not resemble most of the sightings and photographs. Another theory is that it is a Tully Monster (a bizzare prehistoric invertebrate). The Tully Monster does resemble the descriptions of Nessie, except for 2 main problems. The Tully Monster was 6 inches long, and is believed to have been extinct for 280 million years. Another theory is that it is some kind of Zeulodon (an extinct whale), which also resembles descriptions of sea serpents.
